When a door latch doesn t click into position it usually means the latch and the strike plate are out of alignment.

Don t use a wet. Lubricate the inside of the mechanism if the lock still does not function. Tighten the hinge screws and then try adjusting the strike plate by loosening its screws and shifting it slightly. Repairs range from making minor latch adjustments to repositioning the door.

Leave the striker bolt in place. Key will not work if you ve had a new spare key cut recently it could be a poorly cut key causing the problem. A door knob lock button stuck has a few quick fixes that you can try out. In most cases a spritz of dry lubricant will be sufficient to free up the plug and allow you to open your door.

You can spray a little dry lubricant in the lock to free up the plug so you can open the door. Warping if the door cannot physically lock due to the frame or door being warped an adjustment of the strike plate could rectify the problem without the need of a new lock. That can cause the pins to get stuck in a partially raised position and prevent the plug from turning. When that happens the dirt can cause the pins to stick in a partially raised position preventing the plug from turning.

It will come in two pieces. If that is the problem it is easy to fix. Outdoor locks can collect a lot of dirt and dust inside the lock cylinder. Flip the key and open the door.

Remove the two screws one on either side of the handle and remove the knob. Spray the door key with a graphite based lubricant. It should have at least a one inch throw and on the strike side there should be a security plate with screws at least three inches long. The best lock is a dead bolt that s properly installed.

Start by trying to push the lock button. Slide the key in the lock and tap lightly on the key to lubricate the inside of the lock. Push and hold the button in.
